Isle Media has a cameo on television !

Last year Olivia approached Isle Media to inquire if we would be interested in collaborating for a music video. Being that we had no experience in shooting a music video at all, I decided that I would take her up on her offer and in exchange, gain some experience. Olivia brought a compelling story about the hardships that spouses of service members have to endure during lengthly and courageous deployments, not to mention, an amazing original track and a very detailed concept and storyboard. After Olivia's presentation of her ideas, I was convinced that this was going to be a project that Isle Media would fully invest into. 4 months later, 20,000+ (and growing) youtube views, spotlights on the local and national news , and then to top it off, a news interview with our footage being featured on public television!  In collaboration with Olivia's ingenious editing and vision, we created something very special that a universal audience is appreciating!   Please enjoy our first music video, "There we go again" by Olivia Perez-Breland (http://www.oliviabluemusic.com/)

Fun Fun Photo Tour!

Sumie and Hiroaki decided to take their pre-wedding pictures while they were visiting Hawaii! They came over from Japan to spend their time together as boyfriend & girlfriend one last time... since they are getting married in the end of the month back in Japan :-) They had an idea of taking pictures in Hawaii-y places in the wedding outfit. My phone rang one afternoon, and Sumie told me that Isle Media was referred by the hotel concierge where they were staying at. They did not have anything besides their great fun personality - no dress or tax, or transportation. My suggestion was - let's rent the outfit out, and I would drive you around and take fun pictures in beautiful locations you would love! So we went to Waikiki city center, Magic Island, and Waimanalo.

Our 3.5 hour session went by so fast, and I was so happy to take their pictures! They were just merely happy to be each other. I didn't even have to ask them to smile at each other :D Love and laughter were everywhere around them. It was such a fun fun photo tour!  ~ Kay

Lanai E-session with Jaysa and Pat!!

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was when a couple months ago, Alan called me, saying that a client named Jaysa loved our work and wanted to fly us out to Lanai for her engagement shoot!! First of all, I've never been to Lanai. Second, the idea of being flown somewhere for an engagement shoot just blew my mind. I was stoked :)

Last month, this amazingness became a reality, and Alan and I flew out to Lanai and met up with Jaysa and Pat. We set out on an epic all-day shoot, exploring the island and shooting at a ton of locations, including a canopy forest, red dirt hills, a golf course, Lanai City, Manele Bay, Sweetheart Rock, and a ranch! All I can say is that it was a ton of fun! So much, in fact, that Alan and I almost forgot to head back to the airport to catch our flight out lol.

Shelly and John married!

Wedding withdrawals= when days, weeks, months pass, and you are STILL playing back your wedding in your head, or relieving the moment through video. Shelly joked about how she saw her video 3 times in a row, but I watched it about 12. I believe that if wedding withdrawal was was a medical disorder, I definitely would have it. : )

Something great about working with Shelly and John, is that they are genuine, honest and fun loving people. Like most, they were not super thrilled about being thrown in front of cameras for a full day, but after watching their highlight, you would have no idea. Their laid-back and easy going nature allowed us to do what we do best, bring out and enhance the best emotions of their day.

Congratulations John and Shelly! You two were amazing! Thank you for everything.

Alan

PS- Shelly confessed that she has a little thing for Hello Kitty.  Please look for her cameo.  : )

Vanessa and Noel Engaged!!

I swear Ko Olina has this lure for engagement photos :) Vanessa and Noel's session was my fourth time shooting at Ko Olina in the last 3 months (the location was requested by all four couples). As a photographer, shooting at the same location presents the challenge of making each session unique and different. However, Vanessa and Noel helped me out a lot by bringing some cool props, including heart-shaped blackboards and custom-made iphone covers! You'll notice that this shoot has a focus on those little details that made the whole session memorable :)

I gotta give a ton of credit to Vanessa for thinking of those props, and to Noel for wearing a suit at the beach!! You guys rocked the shoot...thank you both and congratulations!!

It's about that time!

It's kind of unbelievable that we are already approaching one year of being in existance.  : )  In a very short period of time, we have created something very beautiful and inspiring, from absolutely nothing.  Beyond just wedding- Isle Media has collaborated with other artists and businesses in a multitude of  projects.  From commercials, to music videos, concept shoots, and public service announcements, we want to do it all.  I don't think any of us could have imagined that we would be where we are at today, one year ago.  : )  We are so honored and grateful that people are appreciating the work that we do.

Now it's time to celebrate.  We will be hosting our premier on May 31, 2012 at the Honolulu Design Center.  Friends that also will be featured in our video showcase include:

Seasons of Life -  Karine French-Matsumoto (event planning)
A Cake Life- Kristin Kato (cakes)
Ma'ohi Nui- Merv Lilo (polynesian entertainment)
Photobox Hawaii- Blaine Chong (photobooth)
Face Art Beauty- Dhyana Leung  (beauty services)

In addition to premiering our own videography pieces that we have created specifically for this event, we also look forward to sharing the stories of all of our partners through video well.

As a gesture of appreciation to all of our freinds and clients that have supported us in the last 12 months, we have decided to make this event entirely free.   No cover charge for anyone.  Please come early, as we expect to have a completely full house at the Honolulu Design Center.  Vallet your cars, and enjoy the entertainment, food, and open bar.  Doors open at 630PM.  Hope to see you there.

On behalf of the entire Isle Media Team,
THANK YOU!!!

Concept Shoot - Slow and Fast Movement

One beautiful Saturday, Isle Media Team went for two concept photo shoot. In the morning Reese led a model shoot in Kakaako, and in the afternoon, I led another shoot at Sandy beach. The video team filmed each photo-shoot, so if you are planning to come to our Isle Media 1st year anniversary party, you will get to see how the shooting was done :-)

For my Sandy shots, I wanted to do two things - capturing the wave movement in a slow motion with long exposure. I used an ND filter to make this dreamy looking waves. For this one, I imaged something like Chinese sumi-e painting with flows of time. I also wanted to capture the beautiful wind movement in vivid colors, which is what you are seeing in this main picture. Both are shot in the same location, but I like these totally different looks in the following set.

Please enjoy! (Click "Read more" to see more pictures).

Sun-Kissed

I couldn't resist...here's another sneak peak from our Lanai trip! :) After a nice lunch with Jaysa, Pat, and Alan at Manele Bay, I decided to explore the area and get a few shots of Jaysa's engagement ring. I  have this obsession with sun flare in my photos (as Alan has in his videos), and this time was no different! This shot took almost half an hour of careful balancing and timing between the breeze that blew through the area, but it was all worth it :D

More to come later!

Opposites Attract !

As they say, there are two sides to every story! More and more couples are asking that we do these "love story/engagement" type videos to "get the record straight." : ) Not everyone knows the story behind the story, and this makes for a good piece play at your reception. Lets just say the entire audience was in roaring laughter for the entire 12 minute duration ; )

Ka'eolani and Justin have been together for nearly 10 years. After spending an afternoon with them while filming their engagement video, I got to know these two even more on a personal level. Justin-the jokester, Ka'eo-the serious one. Justin- spur-of-moment, Ka'eolani- planned, organized and conservative. Justin-reggae lover and Ka'eolani- country, all day! I'm convinced that opposites do attract, because these two are perfect for each other.

Ka'eo and Justin hold a special place in my heart as well, because she booked me nearly 10 months ago, when I may not even had more than 1 or 2 weddings under my belt. Thank you for believing in our talent, trusting us well before we deserved to be trusted, and allowing us to capture such an important day for the two of you. Everything turned out beautiful!

Thank you again, I have a feeling we will see you many more times again this year : )
