Kathy and Derek Married!

Kathy and Derek Same-Day-Edit (Trump/Hale Koa, Waikiki) from Isle Media on Vimeo.

Kathy and Derek are one of the couples that strongly believed in us early on, booking us over a year and a half ago! The couple got ready at the Trump Hotel, where there was no shortage of funny moments and laughter :) The wedding took place at the Hale Koa Luau Gardens, where the couple, in the interests of simplicity, had one of the shortest ceremonies we've ever seen at a wedding lol. Kathy and Derek had a full house of guests at the reception, who were all able to look on at memorable moments, from the funny stories about Derek in high school, to the "cake feeding." Hehe.

Congrats you two!

Kana and Chihiro's Post Wedding Photo Shoot!

It was a great pleasure to work with this fun-loving couple, Kana and Chihiro from Tokyo! After their wedding day, we decided to go to Kailua and have a beach and town-themed photo shoot. One of the props they wanted to use were Supreme's water guns! In between romantic intimate photos, I asked them to pick up the water guns, and fight REAL hard! Both Kana and Chiriro were such action stars! They shoot, dodge, tumble on the sand, and the person who won the fight was… KANA! Later on we went to the first skateboarding shop in Hawaii - called 808 Skate per Chihiro's request. Check out their wedding photo blog (Click Here) to see his skateboarding tricks too!

Congratulations!

Charity and Brad Married! (Moli'i Gardens, Kaneohe)

When people say we live on a small island, it really is true! This was one of the rare occasions where I happen to know every single person in the bridal party, EXCEPT Brad and Charity! It does sure help when you do have some rapport already with the people that you will be spending the entire day with. But what was memorable was the stormy skies and dark clouds that loomed rather ominously overhead. Scary! It rained....and it poured! But right when the ceremony was about to begin the clouds miraculously parted and the rained stopped (and then it started up again once the ceremony was over, lol). But at least we had a dry ceremony!
Congratulations Charity and Brad!

Jane and Harold Married !! // (Paradise Cove, Koolina)

We highly encourage our couples to loosen up on the big day. Sometimes, if may require a little alcoholic influence, in which we say go for it! Jane and Harold sure didn't hold back on that one (LOL). My favorite line during their personalized vow exchange was, "I am yours, and you are MINE." Written by Harold #likeaboss! They had a couples Tahitian duet together towards the peak of the night which made the audience roar with laughter and applause. What a great day and night!
Congratulations Jane and Harold!

Leilani and Miles Married!

Seeing Leilani and Miles get married was an event to behold.  It was a reunion of sorts as many old friends from my High school days gathered together to celebrate and watch them cross over into their life together.  In a way this made me feel like my own sister was getting married.

Chanel and Enoka Married! (Hale Koa, Waikiki)

Chanel and Enoka go wayyyyy back to high school days when Enoka would court Chanel by escorting her to and from all of her classes. It seemed as though no time had passed as Enoka watched Chanel walk down the ceremony isle with the same eyes that quickly watered up at first sight of her in that beautiful wedding dress. This was a long time coming for these two and we were so happy to be part of it.
Congratulations to Chanel and Enoka!

Beth and Kyle Married! (Hale Koa, Waikiki)

It's very humbling when a couple is willing to book us 18 months before their wedding...well this is exactly what Beth and Kyle did :) Their engagement shoot was very memorable, and gave us a glimpse into how much fun these two are! Beth and Kyle's big day began at the Modern, where there was definitely no shortage of laughter :) Beth made special arrangements to do picture taking at a private estate in Kahala, where Hawaii Five O films some of their scenes! We were all pretty stoked, and the estate definitely made it easy for us to get some great formals. The couple exchanged their vows at Hale Koa, and it was pretty amazing to see them officially married, after nearly a year and a half of knowing them.

The reception was definitely the highlight of the wedding! From bubbles during the grand entrance, to the hilarious speeches (Kyle, you're a character lol), to the puppeteer reenactment of their engagement, everyone's stomachs hurt from so much laughter. Oh, and did we mention the crazy dancing at the end of the night?? ;)

Congrats you two!!

Amy and Gary: Formals and Reception!

Amy and Gary celebrated the Western side of their heritage by dressing up in formal wedding attire for their post-wedding photos! We took them around in downtown Honolulu, and gave them a chance to enjoy the beach, before heading off to the reception at Baci Bistro in Kailua. The festivities kicked off there, with lots of speeches, toasts, and of course, dancing :)

Amy and Gary: The Wedding Day!

It is always an honor when a couple chooses us to capture their wedding day, as they are essentially inviting us into their lives, and sharing some of the best moments in the company of their friends and family. In the case of Amy and Gary, this meant that we had to opportunity to experience the colorful traditions and customs of Indian culture! The couple blended traditional and western elements into their wedding, making for east-meets-west event that we definitely will never forget.

With this being our first, all-out Indian wedding, we were pretty mesmerized by all the details, from Amy's glittering pink dress and jewelry, to Gary's Kirpan, a ceremonial sword, and his turban. The ceremony was also eye opening for us, whether it was Amy being escorted around the sacred text by her brother and father, or the whole audience singing to traditional Indian music.

There's just so much to say about this wedding, so I'll narrate little by little throughout the post...thanks for reading!

Natasha and Ethan Married! (Hyatt Regency, Waikiki)

Natasha and Ethan each had their moments to shine during their wedding! During the ceremony, Ethan wrote his vows in Hawaiian, and the translation drew quite an emotional reaction from Natasha. At the reception, Natasha wowed everyone with her singing that she performed for Ethan :) All the speeches at the reception really showed how much these two are loved by their family and friends, and the cake cut had an...interesting ending lol.

Congratulations you two!

Luz-Ann and Chris Married!

We met Luz-Ann and Chris at Maui Expo at the first time back in early 2012. It was great to fly over to Maui, and shoot across the island all day - started from the getting ready in Wailua, to the ceremony at the Kamehameha Gold Club, and finally ending with the reception at Maui Beach Hotel. Their bridal party was full of energy throughout the day, and they shared a lot of laughs, especially at the reception! The couple had this newly-wed quiz game which the wives and husbands had to match their answers for personal questions - all of the contestants and the guests learned a lot about the newly-wed's personalities and memorable stories :-)

Congratulations Luz-Ann and Chris!

Maria and Brandon Married!

To start things off, Brandon and Maria booked the Ihilani Resort for their wedding for mainly one reason: the sunset. Here in Hawaii, we are blessed with nice sunsets, but they are often hit or miss, depending on the weather. It's because of this that we were extremely stoked that after the ceremony, the couple was treated to easily the best sunset anyone of us has ever seen at the Ihilani!

The little details throughout the day added lots of depth to the wedding. Brandon wore a Bazinga shirt, as a homage to one of Maria's favorite phrases. The couple chose their wedding date (July 6th) to coincide with Brandon's parents' anniversary, who they surprised at the reception with a chance to dance together on the dance floor. Pictures of Maria and Brandon's grandparents who passed away allowed for them to be present in spirit.

Brandon and Maria's crazy awesome wedding party made formals a blast, from staging a football stand-off, to clamoring over the rocks for group shots. Throw in the awesome sunset, and a reception full of laughter and you got yourself a pretty cool wedding :)

Congratulations you two!

Cassie and Tommy Married!

Cassie and Tommy decided to have their destination wedding out on the North Shore, at Dillingham Ranch, a brand new venue for us! This wedding really showed us just how much family love can overcome any kind of physical distance. On the day of, Cassie received a special package in the mail from her grandmother. It had a pair of handkerchiefs and a ring that she had at her wedding, and wanted to pass it on to Cassie. Let's just say there were a lot of tears! Also, Cassie's sister was unable to fly down to Hawaii for the wedding, so she tuned in via skype on a laptop to watch her sister get married :)

Thank you Cassie and Tommy for letting us be a part of your special day...congratulations!

Elise and Jamie Post Wedding

I remember when Elise contacted me about her wedding she simply wanted several photos of her and her husband Jamie.  In Isle Media fashion Aly and I spent the afternoon proving that she would want more than just a few photos to remember their wedding day.  We shot at Rocky Point Beach late in the afternoon to catch the sunset but also made use of the greenery and the ply wood fence along the way.  Through our time together it was clear that Elise and Jamie were having just as much fun as we were shooting them.  Their expressions were nothing short of wonderful and showed their upbeat personalities.

Sarah and Chris Married!

Sarah and Chris are by far the biggest foodies who gave us the honor to shoot their wedding at Byodo-in Temple.  What made it special was the custom menu and the special cocktails that needed to meet Chris's approval before being served to their guests.  Also, getting married at Byodo-in Temple was significant because it is one of their favorite places on the Island of Oahu.  The reception that followed took place at the Bella Sophia Estate in Waimanalo, which gave a nice intimate feel for everyone that attended.

Paula and Steve Married!

Paula and Steve got married at the Ko Olina Chapel of Joy, one of our favorite venues for its beautiful glass interior. Prior to the ceremony, Paula and Steve did a First Look "teaser," in which they held each other's hands, without seeing one another, until the ceremony. The couple and their friends and family flew in from California, so it was a small, intimate affair throughout the day.

Things got interesting during the reception, with the couple dancing along with the Taihitian Dancers. Let's just say the bouquet and garter toss were pretty wild, and the dancing that ensued after had everyone out of their chairs, having a blast :)

Congratulations Paula and Steve!

Sumer and Adam Married!

Sumer and Adam both have been long-time followers of our work, (they booked us over a year ago!) and it was awesome to be with them on their big day! Hailing from Colorado, Sumer and Adam have quite the story of how they met: due to a wrong reading off of a medical test, Sumer was held back in the hospital room, where Adam (who works as an EMT) happened to walk in during his shift, and well, the rest is history :)

On the day of the wedding, Sumer and Adam didn't let some dark clouds and rain stop them from tying the knot. The entire wedding party and guests were all prepared with umbrellas, which we put to good use for formals after the ceremony :) The reception was rounded out nicely with heartfelt speeches, laughter, dancing, and a special fireknife performance!

Congratulations guys!

Tanya and Patrick's Vow Renewal

Tanya and Patrick had an intimate vow renewal with their closest friends and family at the Hickam Officer's Club.  It took place directly with the sun setting and was beautiful and emotional in it's own special way.  What made it most memorable was seeing their children all take part in the ceremony not just as part of the bridal party but also saying special words about the love that their parents shared with each other.

Brittni and Sam Married

Brittni and Sam had a wonderful intimate wedding with their closest friends and family.  Their ceremony took place at the  Kamehameha Schools Bishop Memorial Chapel where the Kahu who officiated the wedding reminisced about his memories of Brittni and Sam.  The festivities continued at the Bishop Museum where I had a blast taking photos of the wedding party while waiting for the reception to start.  It was the most energetic group of people I have ever had the opportunity to photograph yet!  They were so expressive and willing to just have fun and enjoy themselves.  Congratulations Brittni and Sam!

Yuka and Yasuyuki Married!

Yuka and Yasuyuki had their dream wedding at a private estate alongside Diamond Head :) After so many times of emailing back and forth between Tokyo and Hawaii, I was so grateful to capture their wedding day. One of the thing Yuka wanted to make sure for her wedding is that it is interactive with the guests - they enjoyed learning Hawaiian culture with a live guitarist and hula dancer after the ceremony, which was followed by BBQ party with chef Yasuyuki! Many of their guests love photography, so for the sunset shots many of the guests tagged along with me and did some amazing team work to make this dynamic dress sunset shot!

What is more exciting about this couple? We were invited to photograph their wedding reception in Japan in October! Stay tuned!
