Argie and Dennis came up with a clever idea to create a movie trailer. One of their inspirations was "The Lucky One" a story by Nicholas Sparks. We all had a lot of fun to say the least, and tried to mix up the drama with some comic relief. Thank you for the opportunity to try new things!

Field Trip to Kunia Camp (Kunia, Oahu)

I had the honor and privilege of being asked to shoot Kunia Camp's first ever field trip to youth wanting to learn more about local agriculture and sustainability.   We started off in the kukui nut fields where the students picked and bagged nuts gathered by hand.  From there the nuts were counted, weighed and husked.  We learned about the many different applications to the kukui nut, including, oil, lip balm, lotion, soap and even salad dressing!   The students participated in harvesting and sanitizing their own lettuce.   Last, we sampled sugar case juice freshly squeezed from a sugar cane processor.  Lunch was complete!   Yum!

Thanks Kunia Camp for allowing me to be part of this project!  Lucky we live Hawaii!

Some might not know that before Isle Media shot weddings, we filmed skits.  We've been extremely busy as of late, but I did manage to make some time to get back to our roots and practice a different type of storytelling.  When I stumbled across saw #instabreakup part 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0EQp_7W_j3c)  filmed by Billy Nguyen and his crew, I told him that if him and friends were up for it, I would film part II.

Creative Portraits on Kauai!

Last month, of bunch of us flew over to Kauai to shoot a wedding and film a part of a documentary for our 2nd Year Anniversary this coming May. We had some down time after we finished filming, and decided to explore Kauai...no itinerary, no scheduled stops. Sometimes, that's really the best way to go :)

As it turned out, we decided to have an improv photo shoot with each other. There's something really compelling about capturing the likeness of your close friends, and we had a blast, shifting between epic portraits and just joking around in front of the camera. Along the way, we found a huge forest of trees, a land fill, and wide open field next to Lihue Airport. It was definitely an adventure that we'll remember for a long time :)

Being that its the holiday season and all, what better time then now then to reflect on everything we are grateful for.  I've come to the realization that Isle Media is more than just a job to us.  We are a family.   Our shared passion for media and art binds us like glue. Whether we are out in the field shooting, or in the office editing, we cherish every moment we have being able to do what we love every single day.

Today, it was our turn to be in front of the cameras. In which most of the time, the Isle Media boys ran away from me saying... "DAD, THE CAMERA IS MAKING ME FEEL AWKWARD!!!" Our goal in this piece is that even though we are almost always serious at work, every now and then, we enjoy cutting loose and having fun.

Canon meets Nikon. Photo meets video. Old school meets new school. Reinventing ourselves. Special thanks to the entire team for all of their hard work! We have some new faces!!! : )

Beyonce's "Love on Top" with a local girl twist. : )

Lillian approached us with a music video concept based off of Beyonce's worldwide hit, "Love on Top." For those who are familiar with this song, you should appreciate our Hawaii local girl interpretation. Thanks to Lillian for planning this awesome shoot, as well as the choreography for all of the boys!

This video was later used to surprise her fiance on the day of their wedding in Las Vegas.

BTS Photos from Kaena Silva's "Like Your Face" Music Video!!

Back in May, Isle Media collaborated with Kaena Silva on his newest music video, "Like Your Face." Since weddings are our bread and butter, it was very refreshing to work with Kaena on making his creative vision a reality! With the recent world release of "Like Your Face," (see video below) we are so stoked to show you guys the behind the scenes photos from the music video filming!

The video was a large scale production...detailed storyboarding and planning, multiple locations, makeup/styling, and a full video team. Alan, Trevor, and Glenn took the lead on this project, and pulled every trick up their sleeves for filming this video. The Kessler Crane, dolly, sliders, glidecam, tripod, and shoulder mount were all used to give a dynamic feel to the music video. Tasha Johnson took up the role of acting alongside Kaena, and did an awesome job of giving life and personality to her character. Nat Kim, owner of Salon Cookie Couture, provided a versatile mix of makeup and styling.  


As you'll see in this post, we had a BLAST collaborating with everyone on this project!

Chazlyn Graduates Highschool!

...unlike our typical wedding shoot where I often feel like the young guy...this particular afternoon as I filmed 15+ innocent teenagers, I felt like the OLD guy. :-X

Chazlyn's favorite past time is canoe paddling, so what better place than Kaiser bowls to film her along with her besties cruising around on boats and eating pizza. Couldn't resist ending the short with our favorite lens flare+ golden hour lights. This video will be played at her graduation celebration party! How fun.

One of the biggest compliments next to being booked for someone's wedding day is when a successful, well-known business invites you to film for their brand. Paul Brown, founder of Hawaii's leading hair and day spa, has over 34 years of experience in the beauty industry. Paul Brown has created unique hair and wellness products reaching multiple continents including the Americas, Europe and Asia. In addition to his franchise of salons in the Hawaiian Islands, Paul has established "The Paul Brown Institute of Beauty and Wellness Technologies," that teaches massage and beauty services. His schools are employed by nearly 300 people.

This highlight reel is comprised of footage taken from a 4 day campaign, showcasing the variety of themes and looks that has inspired his new product line coming soon.

Photography Premier Shoot!

Whew, tons of editing lately, but I finally got a chance to post this shoot up! Although weddings are my professional emphasis, I also do creative work with models on the side, to push my lighting and location work. A few weeks ago, I was able to tap into this creative side when Kay and I did a concept shoot with Alexis, a good friend of mine who is also an agency model. This shoot was for our photography promo video, which will be featured at the May 31st premier! Alan and Jack filmed the shoot, and Zairrah did make up, so it was truly a team effort! The theme for this shoot was fluidity and motion, and I wanted a location that would make a good backdrop and also provide the wind I needed to carry Alexis' dress. Kakaako park fit the bill perfectly, and ended up giving us some great light and wind for the shoot.

Isle Media has a cameo on television !

 Last year Olivia approached Isle Media to inquire if we would be interested in collaborating for a music video. Being that we had no experience in shooting a music video at all, I decided that I would take her up on her offer and in exchange, gain some experience. Olivia brought a compelling story about the hardships that spouses of service members have to endure during lengthly and courageous deployments, not to mention, an amazing original track and a very detailed concept and storyboard. After Olivia's presentation of her ideas, I was convinced that this was going to be a project that Isle Media would fully invest into. 4 months later, 20,000+ (and growing) youtube views, spotlights on the local and national news , and then to top it off, a news interview with our footage being featured on public television!  In collaboration with Olivia's ingenious editing and vision, we created something very special that a universal audience is appreciating!   Please enjoy our first music video, "There we go again" by Olivia Perez-Breland (http://www.oliviabluemusic.com/)

Concept Shoot - Slow and Fast Movement

One beautiful Saturday, Isle Media Team went for two concept photo shoot. In the morning Reese led a model shoot in Kakaako, and in the afternoon, I led another shoot at Sandy beach. The video team filmed each photo-shoot, so if you are planning to come to our Isle Media 1st year anniversary party, you will get to see how the shooting was done :-)

For my Sandy shots, I wanted to do two things - capturing the wave movement in a slow motion with long exposure. I used an ND filter to make this dreamy looking waves. For this one, I imaged something like Chinese sumi-e painting with flows of time. I also wanted to capture the beautiful wind movement in vivid colors, which is what you are seeing in this main picture. Both are shot in the same location, but I like these totally different looks in the following set.

Discover the World of Collins+8th Boutique

Creative filming is a nice reminder of my love of cinematography and art. As much as we love weddings, sometimes it's nice to take a little break. Maida and Joey, owners of Collins+8th, invited me to attend and film their 2012 fashion preview that took place at their quaint space in Honolulu. The models were gorgeous and fun, the audience brought an incredible energy and the pupu's were delicious! It's no wonder why Collins+8th won 2012 boutique of the year!

With the limited spacing, all I could manage to work with were my tripod and camera. My goal was to keep the promo light and exciting, I knew that most of the work would have to be in the edit. I really enjoyed myself in the post-production of this piece, I hope you all like it as well!
