Nelli and Jason Engaged!

It's a bit of an understatement to say Nelli and Jason love the San Francisco 49'ers lol. Aside from matching Willis jerseys, the couple has a wide range of 49er memorabilia, which made for a great football theme. Nelli and Jason enjoy throwing around a football outside, so that also landed on the engagement agenda. After that, we decided to change things up and cruise around Chinatown for some nice afternoon light to end the shoot :)

Kat and Paul Engaged!

Kat and Paul has been together for a long time...they just made 9 years together :) We scheduled their engagement session right before Paul departed for Afghanistan. The shoot took place at a marina and a gorgeous sand bar next to Hickam base...the sunshine and blue skies definitely helped to set the mood for the shoot! It was so much fun to include their dog for some action shots too! Paul is very passionate about basketball and his Scion, both of which we were able to incorporate into the shoot. There was definitely no shortage of laughter and smiles during our session :) Congratulations on your engagement, guys...can't wait for your big day in July!

Jenn and Minh's Engagement Photos (San Francisco, California)

Jenn and Minh flew me all the way to San Francisco for their engagement pictures (thanks for scheduling us in the cold of winter, btw!- just kidding)  We were fortunate to have some of the best weather with lots of sunshine.  Jenn and Minh introduced me to an area below the Golden Gate Bridge, which used to be an army fort.  From there we did some fun shots in their SF 49ers jerseys with their dog, Charlie.  We ended the afternoon with some sunset shots around town, shooting on streets and between buildings.  Thank you for an awesome e-sesh!  The entire Isle Media team is looking forward to returning for your SF wedding in May of 2014!

Daren and Julie Engaged!

We love it when couples incorporate something about themselves in their engagement sessions. Julie and Daren came with a bunch of ideas! The couple went to nursing school together at HPU, and wanted to use the campus as the location for their engagement shoot. We started off with some funny Pinterest ideas to utilize the classroom and outside spaces. Julie and Daren were able to get access to one of the nursing simulation rooms, complete with mannequins that are used for student practice and testing. The couple will be tying the knot at the end of this month, so the next time, they'll be in the classic black and white :)

Amy and Gary's Arrival and Engagement Weekend

Amy and Gary, hailing from Vancouver, chose Hawaii for their destination wedding, flying in relatives and friends from their hometown and India. The couple blended traditional and western elements into their wedding, making for east-meets-west event that we definitely will never forget.

The festivities stretched over 6 days, beginning with the couple's arrival at the airport, and their engagement ceremony in Kailua. It was one of those occasions where we got to experience a different culture in ways we never thought we could and got to know them and their loved ones in a way that made us feel like we were part of the family.  The photo highlights below are from the first two days of our coverage of this amazing event...enjoy!

Candace and Reid Engaged!

I met Candace and Reid when I was attending Pacific University in Oregon. Several years later, we reconnected when the two got engaged and asked me to be their wedding photographer! Candace and Reid are really into sports, and wanted to do a sports theme for their engagement shoot. Thanks to some connections, we were able to shoot at some of the UH athletic facilities to compliment the theme! Candace and Reid were also sure to bring some Pacific U attire, as a shout-out to our Alma Mater :)

Kristin and John Engaged!

One cool thing about our jobs is that we get to meet people from all walks of life! Kristin owns a comic book shop in California (some of those older comics are worth BIG money!), and John coaches volleyball for the inner city youth. Both Kristin and John love volleyball, and decided to make that the theme of their engagement shoot :) We'll be shooting the wedding next week...congrats you two!

Shar and Danny Engaged!

I've known Danny personally for over 10 years, first meeting him when I was 18 years old   during my college years.  We came to know one another via an ad for a high-rise, penthouse apartment in Downtown Honolulu. I was dying to live there, but at the time I had no job, just a measly student.  Danny was the property manager.  

My interview consisted of one question.

"Are you going to pay the rent?"  Danny asked me.  I responded with a confident "YES!" and there he handed me the key.  (...he must have known I was a good guy!!)

Little did we both realize, but we would remain friends for over a decade, and 14 years later, we are now getting booked to cover his big day.  We are all so very happy (and relieved, HA!) he is marrying Shar, a very talented local artist/musican/songwriter.   She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside (go Danny!).

Sidenote ::  Many of our followers know that I am one of the videographers for Isle Media.  Being that Danny and I had so much history, I decided to take a stab at their engagement photos.  Here is my debut as an Isle Media photographer.  : )

Jade and Jeff Engaged!

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was when Jade told me she wanted to do a basketball-themed engagement shoot! Jade and Jeff both love the sport, and went all-out for the shoot. Aside from the custom printed jerseys (#23 for Jordan), they also bought new pairs of Jordans, and stenciled their wedding date on the basketball...pretty darn cool :)

Kay and I had a blast taking photos of these two in their element, and we ended up playing a game of Horse with them! (Of course we lost lol). We finished the shoot over at Waikiki, and we were lucky to snag a stunning sunset, considering the overcast skies we had prior to it.

Julie and Anson Engaged!

Julie and Anson got a jump start on their engagement shoot (their wedding isn't until 2014) because Anson will be deploying overseas for a while. It was great to hang out with these two for the afternoon. Their puppy, Nala, also came along for some photos, and kept up the energy during the shoot :)

Lovella Jane & Harold Engaged!

I love themed photo sessions with lots of props, and Jane and Harold's engagement shoot was exactly this! Their milk & cookie theme, picnic under a tent worked very well in the morning soft light in a forest. Jane is very crafty - I loved all her DIY chalkboard style signs which fit very nicely with their concept :) Jane and Harold were very fun to work with, fun to goof around with each other - and I was happy to capture their precious time together. Their engagement video shoot & interviews will be shown at their reception so look forward to it!

Jen and Kaipo Engaged

Jen and Kaipo were by far the most fun couple that I have had the opportunity to do Engagement photos for yet.  There was not a moment where I could turn my back without fear of losing a good shot from them.  They were so fun and easy going and great to talk to and observe; it did not even feel like a formal engagement shoot and instead seemed like I was photographing them having fun with each other.  My favorite part of the shoot was when they were slow dancing on the beach while I went to go swap cameras.  They were amazed that I photographed them while they danced at the water's edge; it really made for a memorable experience for the three of us.

Mario and Rachel Engaged

When my friends Rachel and Mario announced that they were getting married I was immediately excited for them.  Mario especially wanted an engagement shoot that had an urban/cityscape feel; it made the photo shoot personal for them because of Mario's roots in Las Vegas where he lived prior to moving to Hawaii.  We started the day at the top of a building in Ward and ended with some night photography at Magic Island to capture the city's lights in the background.

Joy and Aaron Engaged!

I love it when couples are able to tie in something about themselves into their engagement shoots. In Joy and Aaron's case, they decided to have their e-session at the HPU Hawaii Loa campus, the place where they first met in college. Joy and Aaron showed us around the campus, and even reenacted their first encounter in the very room where it actually happened for their engagement video :) Thanks for a wonderful session you two...excited for the big day!

I love it when couples find a way to incorporate a part of themselves into their engagement shoot! In Kyle and Beth's case, they both enjoy cooking, and thought it'd be fun to take some photos while they were in the kitchen. Grace and Daniel came to their engagement shoot, all dressed in style! The couple went for a retro look, which fit quite well with the old architecture of the shoot location: Chinatown. The matching Vans shoes was also a nice touch :)

Christina and Chris Engaged!

When I met Christina and Chris I was delighted to know that they wanted to do an engagement shoot with me.  We began our at a park and then went to Secret Beach in Ko'olina which was different for them because they rarely trek out to the west side of Oahu.  They had a lot of fun as well and enjoyed the fresh scenery. I hope you all enjoy these just as much as I did while taking them.

Doreen and Ashton: E-Session + Wedding Post!

Stylish, humorous, photogenic, energetic, quirky, and of course, crazy in love. That's Ashton and Doreen. These two were an absolute joy to work with, from the first image of their engagement shoot, to the final image of their wedding. Every step of the way, these two never failed to make me laugh and joke with them :) The couple went all-out for their e-session, with Doreen wearing a stunning white gown, and Ashton sporting his gray suit and pumas...model status, really ;) The shoot took place in downtown for an urban look, and all I can say is that we all had a blast!

Sheri and Matt Engaged!

Matt and Sheri were a TON of fun to work with! Such great chemistry, and there was no shortage of laughter or smiles :) Matt has a membership to the Elk's Club in Waikiki, so we were able to get some great shots on the large lanai on the top floor, which also gave us a great view of the sunset. Sheri requested some shots next to the Kapiolani Park fountain, and that ended up being on the best requests that I've ever gotten, as you'll see at the end of this blog post :)
