Thailand/India Trip Part Three!

After receiving word that Alan's twin girls had been born, we quickly flew out to New Delhi where the hospital is located. Shankar, one of Alan's good friends from Nepal, picked us up from the airport and would be our guide during our stay in India. Over the next several days, we explored New Delhi, taking in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of this bustling city. The traffic was some of the craziest we've ever seen...horns honking, cars crammed between lanes, motorcycles weaving in and out of traffic, and masses of people walking along the sides of the road!

Alan was able to visit his girls for the first time in the hospital, and stayed over to learn baby care skills from the nurses. The hospital was pretty strict about sanitation and having outside visitors in the ICU, so Trevor and I weren't able to go in until several days later, which was when I shot the photos of Alan and his girls at the end of this blog post.

We decided to make the trek out to Agra, which is home to the famous Taj-Mahal! Agra is about 3 hours outside of New Delhi, so we had to leave the city around 3am to catch sunrise at Taj Mahal. The highway took us over vast expanses of land, dotted with brick factories and agricultural land. When we finally walked thru the gates, there it was...Taj Mahal. You really have to see it for yourself to appreciate its grandeur and scale. People from all around the world were there, taking in the this awesome sight, so it was definitely tricky to find open areas to get our shots!

Anyway, this concludes the blog posts from our Thailand/India trip! We hope you all enjoyed the photos! If you missed our earlier posts from the trip, be sure to check them out here:

Our First Wedding Shoot in Tokyo!

Our first international wedding shoot in Tokyo, Japan!

Alan and I had an opportunity to shoot Yuka & Yasuyuki's wedding at Hibiya park last week :) I was super excited when Yuka first popped the question to me: "Are you by chance in Japan in October? We have a wedding reception back in Japan, and I would like you to photograph it as well..." Working internationally was one of my goals of 2013, so my answer was YES! This was our international shoot debut for both photo and video team.

The above photograph was taken in front of a busy intersection right outside of their venue. I wanted to incorporate the Big City feel into this picture with the motion from the cars passing by. More photos will be posted later on. Stay tuned!

Thailand Trip Part Two!

With all the wedding stuff we've been posting recently, we wanted to revisit our Thailand/India trip and pick up where we left off. After flying out of Phuket, Alan, Jack and I flew in Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand). This region was very mountainous, with a cool climate, a nice break from the unrelenting humidity that we experienced in Bangkok! Alan took us elephant riding, which was definitely a highlight of trip for us all! It's hard to describe the feeling of riding two stories above the ground, while sliding around in the platform atop the elephant...oh, and one of our elephants turned to be really hungry and kept pestering us for bananas and sugar cane lol. We visited a shopping center with vendors packed in like sardines, checked out a Buddhist monk academy and temple, and tried a ton of delicious (and authentic) food!

After Chiang Mai, we flew back to Bangkok. We made the trip out to Amphawa Floating Market, an iconic area where vendors set up their boats along a large canal and see their food. Alan also learned that he was going to have two baby girls, an ironic twist, as he had been planning on having two boys, or a boy and a girl!

We'll never forget when we were about to enter the movie theatre to watch "Wizard of Oz" in the shopping center, when Alan got the call from his surrogate agency...the babies had just been born! It was a whirlwind ride the next few days, and we promptly left for India. But we'll save that for another post :)

Thailand Trip Part 1

On March 7th, Alan, Jack and I embarked on an adventure to Thailand and India (Trevor would join us later in India). This trip was centered around the birth of Alan's baby girls, Ava and Addison, and also presented a chance for us to see a part of Asia. We spent the first week in Thailand, meeting Alan's family, walking the streets of his childhood memories, and exploring the colorful culture of the Land of Smiles.

Two weeks later, I came back to Hawaii with over 2000 photos, trying to figure out how I wanted to blog such a large body of work. I realized it'd be best to split the photos from this trip, so this post will be the first of four. A lot of photos are narrated, so I will let them do the talking :)

There's quite a bit of images here, so take your time :) Enjoy!

Creative Portraits on Kauai!

Last month, of bunch of us flew over to Kauai to shoot a wedding and film a part of a documentary for our 2nd Year Anniversary this coming May. We had some down time after we finished filming, and decided to explore Kauai...no itinerary, no scheduled stops. Sometimes, that's really the best way to go :)

As it turned out, we decided to have an improv photo shoot with each other. There's something really compelling about capturing the likeness of your close friends, and we had a blast, shifting between epic portraits and just joking around in front of the camera. Along the way, we found a huge forest of trees, a land fill, and wide open field next to Lihue Airport. It was definitely an adventure that we'll remember for a long time :)

Exploring Phuket! (Thailand)

It is Day 3 of our trip to Asia, and we realize that everyone needs an escape from the stresses of daily life. In our case, this is especially crucial to take a break before the wedding season goes into full swing next month. We are currently on Naka Island, a location that is as beautiful as it is isolated. Yesterday, we took a tour around the Phuket Island chain, and saw some truly remarkable land formations. For this blog post, we did portraits that were taken at different times of the day...early morning, mid afternoon, and sunset at various locations Enjoy!  (Alan, Reese, Jack)
